Scaling up capabilities for LNG projects

The Grindrod group is scaling up its capabilities in Mozambique. “Whilst the clearing and forwarding requirements for the construction of the Syrah mine from scratch using imported equipment and materials was well within our capabilities, the massive scale of the LNG projects in Palma requires us to team up with a global logistics company,” says Clive James, director of Grindrod’s ships agency and clearing and forwarding division, Sturrock Grindrod Maritime. “In this regard we have an established partner with whom we are working on these opportunities. “Such is the scale of the projects that in all likelihood inward bound shipments will need to be staged and transhipped at more than one port in the region. “In this regard our extensive East African coverage with owned offices in Mombasa, Dar es Salaam, Pemba, Nacala, Beira, Maputo and Durban and the accompanying strategically positioned warehouses and laydown areas position us very strongly to participate,” he says.
