Sars to ditch manual payments

From April 1, 2016, manual forms of payment will no longer be accepted by the SA Revenue Service (Sars).

As part of an effort to streamline operations and enhance efficiencies at Sars branches, payments will have to be done electronically or in a bank. “Therefore the 'Payments Queue' at Sars branches will cease to exist. In addition, no cheques (either posted or dropped off at Sars drop-boxes) will be accepted,” according to a Sars statement.

This does however exclude Customs.

Taxpayers can make payments at their bank, via eFiling or via electronic funds transfer (EFT).
