The SA Revenue Service executive team has embarked on a ‘morale-boosting’ exercise and plans to visit every Sars branch in the country in an effort to gain more understanding of where people in the organisation find themselves.
This was the message from acting commissioner Mark Kingon who told delegates at the annual conference of the South African Association of Freight Forwarders (Saaff) in Cape Town recently that Sars was under no illusion about the huge task it faced.
“Given the recent events around Sars we have a huge task to regain the trust and confidence of South Africans and I think one needs to understand the challenges,” he said. While the organisation is working hard to improve morale, he said meaningful and pragmatic engagement with stakeholders was top priority.
Part of the new strategy going forward would be renewed engagement with trade bodies and labour representatives, he added.
