FROM MARCH next year the Value-added Tax (VAT) number of businesses must be reflected on all tax invoices exceeding R1 000 so that claims for input tax can be validated.
This rule also applies to any subsequent debit or credit notes issued in respect of those supplies, according to a directive from SA Revenue Service.
Riaan de Lange of PricewaterhouseCoopers told Ftw the changes were introduced by an amendment to certain sections of the VAT Act published in the Government Gazette on December 22, 2003. “Readers who may have questions on the impact of the new tax invoice requirements on their businesses can submit questions by e-mail to taxinvoices@sars.gov.za.”
