SARS automates manifest acquittals

SA REVENUE Service’s electronic drive is gaining momentum. Following the recent development of an automated MAS for cargo imported by sea, changes have been made to the Customs Automated Processing of Entries (CAPE) system which will start validating the information in the documentation submitted to SARS on June 6. The primary aim of the MAS, says Deloitte, is for SARS to manage the prescribed cargo reports and to correlate these with the respective customs clearances. “The ultimate objective is to ensure that all goods listed on the cargo reports are accounted for.”
