ALAN PEAT
THERE HAVE been changes made to the “Samba” Gulf-SA-South America service run by Safmarine and Maersk Sealand - only three months after the last revision in its rotation.
A string has been added to the service within the Gulf, linking Jebel Ali with Dammam.
This is seen as adding strength to the Gulf feeder network, and also adds direct links between Saudi Arabia and other areas served by Samba.
The rotation in the East Coast of South America (ECSA) has also been revised.
Formerly north-bound up the Brazilian coast with Santos as last call, Safmarine told FTW, this rotation is now inverted - with Santos as first call in South America.
It was also confirmed that there has been no change to SA coverage, with Samba now sailing a circuit of Durban-Santos-Itajai-Paranagua-Rio Grande-Cape Town-Port Elizabeth.
