SAFCOR Panalpina’s Cape Town branch has seen turnover rise by 6% with volumes up by 26%, says regional director Steve Goslett, and he projects a further 10% increase in the year ahead.
In Cape Town the company handles around 1000 TEU exports a month but at least one customer imports as many as 2 500 TEU a year.
“We have previously always been geared to exports but I think we are heading toward becoming more of a forwarding expertise-based company and we will be specifically developing our exporting capabilities in the year ahead while keeping an eye out for new projects.”
Sales and marketing director Bruce Thoressen believes that the participation of black economic empowerment players is crucial in this day and age and says Bidvest - the holding company of Safcor Panalpina - is fortunate to have on board a BEE partner in Dinatla.
