IF EVER there was a year of change in the clearing and forwarding industry, this has been it and Safcor Panalpina has played a responsible role by participating in the planning and testing of the various changes.
These include alterations to the manifest acquittal system, electronic data interchange in both imports and exports, IRCCs, DCCs, USA CSI and the stricter enforcement of regulations regarding hazardous cargo.
The company has also been at the forefront of the export paperless pilot trial which started in August and has not only trained staff from major industry players and financial intermediaries but has also been involved in setting up the necessary procedures with Customs in compliance with United States CSI regulations.
Training, as expensive as it is, plays a vital role at Safcor Panalpina which explains why the KZN branch can look forward to enrolling at least six learnership candidates during 2005.
