JUNE 1 will see the launch by Johannesburg-based Safcor Freight and the Harare-based Walford Meadows Group of a joint venture service, Safafrica, which will cover South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Tanzania.
The new service will offer overborder trucking and road groupage between Johannesburg and the neighbouring territories, as well as air, sea and rail traffic north- and southbound. Project business will also be handled.
Both companies recognised the need for a total door to door service for a sector of the market that is gaining significance rapidly, Safcor seafreight director for Gauteng, Pete Williams, told FTW.
For our customer base shipments will now be controlled by a single system throughout the transport process leading to tight control of logistics.
Walford Meadows, which was established in 1902, brings to the table an extensive infrastructure north of the Limpopo, as well as an understanding of those markets, says executive group director Aad Driessen.
Safcor in turn brings to the party its full South African infrastructure and significant airfreight expertise, said Williams.
