Yesterday saw the successful finalisation and adoption by the Southern African Customs Union (Sacu) of the development of training packages for the Sacu Preferred Trader Programme (PTP).

The PTP forms part of the World Customs Organisation (WCO)-Sacu Connect Project whose objective is to actively support the region in building tools and enhancing skills that will ensure a common approach in accreditation programmes.

According to the WCO, the PTP will enable the replication of regional customs instruments at a national level within Sacu member states.

Additionally, a workshop – including supply chain management training – will be held in Lesotho in the coming weeks, in order to enhance validation skills applied to Sacu PTP programmes.

“It is envisaged that each member state will have acquired relevant tools that will assist in building a sustainable preferred trader programme,” a WCO statement read.
