South African Airways (SAA) has announced that it will be reducing flights to specific locations on both its regional and domestic networks as part of its turnaround plan.
According to SAA spokesperson Tlali Tlali, the flight reductions will improve schedule efficiencies and help to return the state-owned entity to financial sustainability in the shortest time possible.
“These changes will enable SAA to revise its schedules and frequencies as and when needed in order to meet the ever-changing demand patterns across its network,” he said. “We are therefore monitoring route performance and have made some capacity adjustments to align our schedule and frequency for sustainable and profitable outcomes.”
Daily flights have been reduced from four to two for Port Elizabeth and from three to two to East London.
Weekly flights were reduced from seven to four per week for Luanda (Angola) and from five to four for flights to Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo).
Flights to Brazzaville, Pointe Noir and Libreville with connections to Cotonou and Douala are currently under review.
