‘Expect some changes soon’
EXPECT SOME major changes to the
schedules of South African Airways as
airline executives re-examine the status quo.
“We’re re-looking at all our schedules right now and in the next few months the number of flights may be reduced on some routes and increased on others,” says SAA Cargo
executive vice president and general manager Tleli Makhetha.
“As the new Airbus fleet is phased in, we will be looking at ways of optimising the
aircraft. The lucrative Hong Kong route, for example, will receive special attention.
“SAA is also seriously looking into options on

the South American route. The leasing in of a long-haul freighter to fly from South America to North Asia hubbing in Johannesburg is a strong possibility.”
According to Makhetha this service could be up and running within two to three months
depending on the
outcome of viability studies.
