This week saw the launch by South African Airways (SAA) of a new direct flight from Accra to Washington DC. The flights will operate four times a week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Dzifa Attivor, Ghana’s minister of transport, said it was in line with government’s policy objective of making Ghana the aviation hub in the West African sub region. John Thambi, a representative of SAA, said: “SAA’s decision to route some of its North American-bound flights to Ghana was based on sound business principles.”
