SOUTH AFRICAN Airways has spent R12million on upgrading security technology in its cargo areas across the country, says Johann de Waal, executive head SAA Protection Services.
"These upgrades were not prompted by the recent spate of robberies at airports," he said. "We have been taking security extremely seriously for a long time and this is the result of our planning."
SAA has installed 1 000 cameras which enable a control centre, situated near Johannesburg International Airport, to conduct remote auditing of the airline's cargo centres across South Africa.
