SOUTH AFRICAN Airways (SAA), has been cleared of “predatory pricing” changes by its airfreight division, SAA Cargo. This followed a complaint to the Competition Commission (CC) last January by Skyhaul that SAA was pricing below cost on the Johannesburg-Bloemfontein-George route. However, after an investigation, the commission decided not to refer the matter to the Competition Tribunal. In terms of the Competition Act, the Commission would have been required to refer the matter to the tribunal if it found SAA to have engaged in anti-competitive pricing.
