Finance minister Malusi Gigaba has submitted a memo to Cabinet following the receipt of submissions for the position of South African Airways (SAA) CEO.
“Having followed due process, the SAA board had made a submission to me and stated their preferred candidate,” he said during a media briefing last week.
Gigaba stated that the matter would be finalised at the next Cabinet meeting and the name would be announced thereafter.
“It’s important that this should happen in order to assure SAA lenders that government is serious and that we take seriously the loans they have given us,” he added.
He emphasised the need to appoint someone with good business grounding, acumen and turnaround expertise.
