South Africa is still positioned as the ideal gateway for trade between the Copperbelt and the rest of the world believes Dhiren Krishna, managing director of Durban-based GSF Trucking.

“As much as the rate of growth may be slower than we like (and may have plateaued) in South Africa, we are confident that our infrastructure and capacity makes us the ideal gateway into the region.

“Strong growth in the number of enquiries and request for quotations (RFQs) that we are receiving is an indication of the growth potential. “We see this as a result of various factors, the largest being the recent discussions at the BRICS summit where BRICS members identified SA as the key gateway to regional investment, growth and expansion.

“Regional growth in SADC, with higher than average growth in certain sub-regions (southern DRC and the Zambian copper belt), is going to grow the road freight sector.

“In anticipation of this growth we have invested in our own capacity and infrastructure, and are ready to rock and road,” he says.
