South Africa and Mozambique have formalised their anti-piracy partnership, which is aimed at keeping Somali pirates out of Mozambican waters. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed to step up anti-piracy efforts. This follows the allocation of an additional R81.4 million to the Defence Force for its anti-piracy patrols, which was announced by finance minister Pravin Gordhan in his mid-term budget.
