ALAN PEAT SA HAS taken the world’s number one spot in anti-dumping actions in the first half of this year with a total of 17 investigations compared to only five in the same period last year. According to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), measures to combat dumping continue to decline – with the US recording the most dramatic reversal, with only four cases in the first six-months compared to last year’s 21. China still remains the main alleged culprit with 22 actions directed at its exports during January–June as opposed to 25 in the first half of last year, customs and trade specialists Deloitte told FTW, It also remains the number one target for new measures against dumping of exports with products from China accounting for 18 of the new measures reported. The products which were the subject of most anti-dumping flak were chemicals followed by base metals and machinery.
