THE BOARD of Tariffs and Trade is investigating accusations of massive dumping of stainless steel hollowware, following complaints from the stainless steel industry.
The accusations are levelled at China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea, and are claimed to have cost the local manufacturers up to R150 million annually in lost sales.
We are involved with the domestic verification process, which forms the preliminary phase of investigation, says Johan Herman of the BTT, who has been appointed to head the investigation.
The South African footwear industry recently lodged similar complaints with BTT against the same nations, claiming that large amounts of footwear had been dumped on these shores, causing significant losses to that industry.
