GORDON GRIFFITHS, formerly director of international trade for the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI), is to be the man behind a new drive to promote investment in the province of Mpumalanga.
He has been appointed m.d. of recently established Mpumalanga Investment Initiative (MII) which will be launched officially in May. A provincial road show is planned to inform local businesses of its aims and objectives.
Griffiths moves to the Nelspruit headquarters of MII after having met some 300 incoming delegations and missions to this country while in his previous position, as well as having led missions to many countries abroad, including USA, Canada, South America, China and India.
One of my top priorities is to create a database of local businesses to assist them with international funding and joint ventures, he says.
Many foreign investors are seeking business opportunities in South Africa. Joint ventures are becoming exceedingly popular and there are numerous ways in which local companies could restructure such ventures to the benefit of both parties.
The five main sectors in the province offering many value added opportunities waiting to be exploited, he says, are stainless steel, petro chemicals, wood, agro food processing and tourism.
