UPS-SCS taps into Menlo Worldwide expertise to boost sector

JOY ORLEK
FOLLOWING THE acquisition of Menlo Worldwide, UPS-SCS can now tap into the expertise gained by Menlo over many years in the automotive industry, and it’s a market on which UPS is ready to capitalise.
Menlo has established what it calls 'The Automotive Dedicated Industry Group', also known as the 'Premium Products Group', which supports the development of tailored logistics programmes to meet the total distribution needs of automotive manufacturers, aftermarket suppliers, sub-assemblers and original equipment manufacturers.
"An expert team, which comprises the company’s 'Premium Solutions Group', offers a range of value added services,” says UPS’s Louis Liebenberg.
“These range from premium product development to improved network asset utilisation, joint logistic distribution projects and cost reductions through optimised solutions.
And this includes sourcing for total cost savings and transit time reduction,” he said.
Premium Solution Centres are in operation in Birmingham England, Brussels Belgium, Cologne Germany and Valencia Spain. “The knowledge and experience gained in these centres over many years is being used as a model not only to grow the existing services but also to establish a fully fledged centre in South Africa,” says Liebenberg.
Standard Operating Procedures are in place for all automotive movements, but customisation is key and each operating procedure is tailored to suit specific customer needs.
'Premium Freight Solutions' provide 24/7 real time live track and trace of shipments, also available to the customer via the internet.
