The launch of the $35mn dry-port in Masaka, Rwanda.

In a move to further modernise the country, Rwandan President, Paul Kagama, this week officially launched a new $35m inland cargo handling facility in Masaka. The facility is expected to ease the trade of goods and cargo, while decreasing waiting time.

The Dubai Ports (DP) World Kigali Logistics Platform forms part of Rwanda’s bid to become a regional logistics hub, which Kagame said would open doors to a market of over a billion people.

"With the launch of this facility, Rwanda is doing its part to connect with the larger market of more than 1.2 billion consumers in Africa and beyond.”

The 13-hectare customs-controlled facility is a joint venture between United Arab Emirates logistics firm DP World and the Rwandan government. It will offer a  modern Inland Container Terminal (ICT), a 12 000-square metre container yard, multiple service buildings and improved 19 600 square metre warehousing facility.
