A total of 3 600 officials
were found guilty of
misconduct related to
corrupt activities reported
to the National Anti-
Corruption Hotline (NACH)
in the public service between
September 1, 2004 and
January 31 this year.
Briefing the Governance
and Administration Cluster
in Cape Town last week,
Minister of Home Affairs,
Malusi Gigaba, said that by
the end of January a total
of 18 778 cases had been
referred to government
departments, and feedback
on 17 240, or 92%, of cases
had been received.
“Of the total number
of cases referred, 16
947 [90%] cases were
closed. The successful
investigation of cases of
alleged corruption reported
to the NACH resulted in the
recovery of R410 million
from perpetrators,” Gigaba
added.
