FOR SHIPPERS keen to improve the
security of palletised cargo, pallet
covers could be the answer.
“It’s not shrink wrap, but a security
cover that works to envelop the entire
pallet in a robust plastic to protect
whole pallets from the elements, and
more,” says Caryn Formby of Cape
Town-based Power Plastics.
The product offers weather sealing
and increased security for palletised
cargo, with an array of applications
from maintaining the environment of
perishables to pilferage prevention for
goods in transit.
“We have a full range from thermal
covers for temperature control to the
more robust and durable PVC canvas
covers Formby told FTW.
“The covers also offer protection
from mechanical damage such as
forklifts,” she said. They are strong
enough to fend off a knife or
screwdriver. “It is a barrier against
pilferage and theft, and acts as a
deterrent as it is difficult to see
through the opaque plastic.”
The covers also allow for barcoding
and labelling of entire pallets to assist
with tracking and identification in
racked or free-store facilities, providing
an additional benefit to warehouse
management, she said.
