Road hauliers’ strike threatened

ALAN PEAT TROUBLE IS looming in the road freight industry as wage negotiations hit a deadlock last Tuesday (November 15), according to Ronnie Mamba, communications officer of the SA Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu). Satawu, other unions, and the Road Freight Employers’Association have been negotiating since August, but three months later there is no agreement. So, Mamba added, the first of two dispute meetings has been set for December 5 when union leaders will find out if members back a strike and if so, when.
