Another win for common
sense and the power of
the press as Transnet Port
Terminals (TPT) head
office in Durban withdraws
a contentious demand
made of service providers
in Port Elizabeth.
This was the demand
that service providers to
TPT had to comply with
the Transnet termination
of employment policy and
“to adhere to its retirement
age of 63”.
FTW distributed copies
of the letter to members
of the freight industry in
Durban, in the fear that
this outrageous demand
could spread to other
ports around the SA coast.
And it met with howls of
derision.
So much so that one of
our contacts presented a
copy to Zeph Ndlovu, TPT
senior GM, at a meeting of
the Ethekwini Maritime
Cluster, for his comments.
He remained silent at
the meeting. But, when
FTW contacted him later,
Ndlovu informed us that
this letter should never
have been sent out, and
would be withdrawn.
Retirement demand withdrawn
