Lobbying is under way for the upgrading of a link through western Zambia which bypasses Lusaka and cuts a distance of 300km and many hours of travel time from the traditional route. The distance from Solwezi to Kazungula via Lusaka is 1 133 kilometres compared to 832 km through Sesheke.“We have been engaging the Zambian government through the Road Development Agency of Zambia to work on the 90km section of the corridor between Sesheke and Kazungula,” says Walvis Bay Ndola Lubumbashi Development Corridor (WBNLDC) cluster secretariat consultant Eric Shimumbwe. At present the untarred 90 kilometres is being maintained by trucking companies at their own cost.
