Zimbabwe’s draft renewable energy policy aims to reduce the country’s reliance on energy imports while also achieving a 33% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 – killing two birds with one stone. According to Magna Mudyiwa, Zimbabwe’s deputy minister of energy and power development, the country plans to develop more solar, gas, hydro and wind projects. Whilst hydro power generation remained on the list due to the many dams in the country, solar PV and gas was by far the preferred route for the future, said Mudyiwa.
