Refurbished Polana offers five-star luxury

Mozambique’s grand old dame, the Polana Serena Hotel, is not only getting a much needed facelift, but is also stepping into the 21st century. According to Karim Merali, general manager of the hotel, the refurbishment process, which started in January this year, will be completed by no later than mid 2010 before the second phase of renovations kicks off. These will be finished by the end of next year and when the dust finally settles Mozambique will offer a truly five star hotel. “The building was in much need of renovation and it was also time to upgrade facilities and contribute towards raising the standards of quality on offer in Mozambique,” says Merali. “On completion we will have a new health club and spa as well as conference centre of international standard.” He said it was important that the outside structure of the hotel remained. “We do not want to change the beauty of the Polana Serena and the outside façade will be as distinctive as ever.” Costing an estimated $30-million, the hotel will be modernised and will be able to cater to its international business travellers at all levels.
