Volkswagen Group South Africa exported its biggest single shipment of vehicles – 3 141 New Polo and Cross Polo cars – over the last weekend of October. The vehicles were loaded in the Port Elizabeth harbour on to the United Kingdomregistered Tortugas. The Tortugas will take about 21 days to Emden in northwestern Germany. From Emden, the vehicles will be distributed to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Cyprus, Germany, Spain, Ukraine, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal and the Canary Islands, according to VW. Earlier this year, the Volkswagen Group South Africa announced an increase of New Polo exports from the previously planned 55 000 units to over 75 000 in 2010. The Uitenhage-based manufacturer is the sole manufacturer of the new Cross Polo.
