President Cyril Ramaphosa has transferred the administration of South African Airways (SAA) from Treasury back under the purview of the Department of Public Enterprises.
The decision to do so was one of the recommendations made by a study, commissioned by the two government departments, aimed at developing the optimal group structure for state-owned aviation assets.
“As the executive authority for other major state-owned companies, including SA Express, the minister of Public Enterprises is best placed to be the custodian of all of the state’s aviation assets,” a joint statement read.
State aviation assets include SAA, its subsidiary Mango, and SA Express.
