MBABANE – Swaziland
will spend R1 billion to
upgrade its main westeast
highway to improve
transport to Maputo.
New sections will be built
from Manzini, connecting
to finished sections
originating at South Africa’s
Oshoek border post.
The new sections will replace
some roadways that have not
been refurbished since their
construction in the 1970s.
An upgraded highway
to the Mozambique
border will run through
two game parks and
Swaziland’s sugar
plantations. Swaziland’s
top agricultural export is
sugar. The highway will
assist with transport of
this key commodity.
Financing will come
from the Swaziland
government with
loans from the African
Development Bank.
