R1.9bn for road upgrades

LEONARD NEILL THERE’S GOOD news for operators of heavy duty transport vehicles. The Cabinet has approved R1.9 billion for the improvement of non-toll national roads in a project designed to be completed in two years. The money goes to the Road Infrastructure Strategic Framework, with Cabinet describing it as ‘providing a basis for the upgrade of our road infrastructure, including the identification of priority corridors.’ Many of these roads are used by hauliers to avoid toll-road congestion and help eliminate toll charges which add to the consumer’s burden.
