Four flights a week Joy Orlek THE DEPARTURE from Doha on Monday (January 17) of Qatar Airways' A330-200 heralds the start of the airline’s service on the Johannesburg and Cape Town routes. Express Air Services has been appointed general sales and servicing agent (GSSA) and cargo handling agent in South Africa. The airline will initially operate four rotations a week to and from Johannesburg and Cape Town, adding approximately 40 tons of weekly cargo capacity to the SA market. Qatar Airways already serves more than 55 destinations in the Far and Middle East, UK and Europe from its hub in Doha. “Through the airline’s vast network, the local dry and perishable export community will not only have access to new destinations but alternative outbound solutions at competitive rates,” says EAS marketing and sales director Neil Harris. “The extensive EAS domestic and regional network and representation will offer seamless outbound connections and inbound transfers to and from all major destinations in southern Africa," he added. Marco Garcia has been appointed senior reservations officer and will look after cargo reservations. Previously with Alitalia, ACP and more recently Martinair, he brings over six years of specialist reservations experience.
