Protesters to face full might of the law

Truck drivers blockading roads would face the “full might of the law” warned Minister of Police, Bheki Cele.

This followed the arrest late last week of 62 drivers and the impounding of 51 cargo-carrying trucks at another protest on the N3 at Van Reenen’s Pass in KwaZulu Natal He confirmed the theory that local drivers were behind these blockades, reportedly protesting against the employment of foreign nationals.

“We have laws in this country and the full might of the law will be heard and felt. Our open door policy allows for progressive engagements at all times.”

He said the trucking industry needed be part of the solution as drivers “were raising genuine grievances”.
