Pro-active surveying service identifies possible risks

WHEN IT comes to managing risk in the movement and storage of cargo, it’s an information game where prevention is always the preferable option. Rennie Murray & Co has put this philosophy into practice and developed a pro-active surveying service aimed at identifying risks associated with the movement and storage of cargo. “By conducting pre-shipment surveys, potential risks can be identified and eliminated before the cargo is shipped, thus preventing possible insurance claims and costly delays,” says Rennie Murray’s Garth Huggins. Detailed condition reports are issued supported by photographs. But even when cargo has been correctly packed and secured to withstand the rigours of transit, it’s possible for it to be damaged later in an inadequate or dilapidated storage facility. “With this in mind, the company has developed a detailed and practical Warehouse Risk Survey aimed at identifying potential risks to cargo stored in warehouses,” Huggins told FTW. “The report includes, but is not limited to, the location of the warehouse, storage arrangements, security, fire fighting equipment and general house keeping, and identifies risks to which the cargo is exposed while it is in storage. “In this way risks identified can be addressed with the warehouse before a claim arises.” All this is in addition to the reactive service provided when a claim has arisen.
