The recent transport of two passenger ferries – Likoni and Kwale – from Dresden to Mombasa demanded some fancy footwork from the appointed carrier, Beluga Shipping. The ferries, which will carry 1500 passengers and up to 65 cars several times a day once they’re in service, were transported aboard the 166-metre long Beluga Singapore. The freight hold in which the Kwale was accommodated measured just a few decimetres more than the cargo itself – requiring precision handling by the vessel’s two on-board cranes. The Beluga Singapore is one of 69 vessels operated by Beluga Shipping specifically for project and heavy lift shipments providing 800- 1400 ton crane capacity in tandem usage.
Precision is key as ferries are ferried to Mombasa
