Industry has until
September 15 to comment
on the new Transnet
National Ports Authority
(TNPA) tariff application
for 2018/19.
TNPA has requested an
average tariff adjustment
of 8.45% with an average
10% increase for marine
services and 7.88% for
cargo dues.
During August the Ports
Regulator of South Africa
met with stakeholders
in Johannesburg, Cape
Town, Durban and Port
Elizabeth to explain the
tariff determination
process. Several
benchmarking and tariff
comparative studies were
also highlighted.
The Regulator is
expected to give the record
of decision on the tariff
application in December.
Saaff ’s Mike Walwyn
called on industry
stakeholders to participate
in the process and give
comment.
“It is still too early to
say what the regulator’s
decision will be, but
industry remains hopeful
that a lesser percentage
will be granted as it is
accepted that 8.45%
is simply too high in
the current economic
environment.”
