Port of NY-NJ heads for 2015 record

The Port of New York- New Jersey (NY-NJ) is on track to top its record 2014, a result of the benefits of “a strong regional economy and labour uncertainty on the west coast”, according to port commerce director Richard Larrabee.

With 3.1 million TEUs handled in the first half, the container volume grew by 13.4% from a year earlier.

Between January and June, loaded import containers totalled 1.57 million TEUs, up 13.1% - and, handling 279 038 TEUs of loaded import boxes in June, it recorded a 15.5% increase from June 2014.

In June, the terminals handled 115 991 TEUs of loaded export containers, while the first half totalled 699 246 TEUs.

They handled 165 483 empty TEUs in June and 808 297 TEUs in Jan-June.
