Port of Luanda cargo takes 1st half plunge

Cargo processed at the port of Luanda, Angola, has plummeted in the first half of this year.

Figures from the port management company, Empresa Portuária de Luanda (EPL), revealed that cargo handling in the port fell by 10.9% to 4.9 million tonnes.

This, according to EPL, was due to the current situation of the world economy, particularly the drop in the price of oil, Angola’s main export.

The processing of bulk cargoes and containers saw year-on-year contractions of 4% and 13.6% respectively.
