Port and railway masterplan ready for sign-off

THE MINISTER of public enterprises Alec Erwin has approved Transnet’s port and railway masterplan. According to department spokesman, Elvin Harris, the masterplan is on its way to cabinet for sign-off – and, in about four-to-six weeks, Transnet should be able to issue the detail. “Clearly,” he told FTW, “it is about both integration and investment, and also includes the development of the individual corridors in SA.” The plan also looks at the various different options of modal capacity needed by each of SA’s different areas of the economy and industry. “It defines what infrastructure investment each of these needs,” said Harris – while he stressed that it was a long-term programme.
