A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the City of Cape Town and its ports is proving beneficial to all parties. According to port manager Sipho Nzuza, this is not just from a strategy level but from a tactical point of view as well. “There was recently a serious accident on the N1 and the traffic was backed up for miles. Thanks to our MoU and close working relationship with the City we opened up Duncan Road in the port for the general public to alleviate the congestion and get the traffic flowing again,” he said. “It is just one example of where we are all working together towards an improved city and ultimately province.” He said there was far more cooperation than ever before while monthly meetings kept all the roleplayers on track around what was happening where and when. “We are now planning long-term strategies in conjunction with the City and the province rather than working in isolation.”
