Platform figures support port’s growing popularity

Road freight to the Port of Walvis Bay is on the increase since the new container terminal started operations in August 2019.That’s according to Klokke van Blerk, head of operations at Korridor, a truck park and online logistics tech solution service provider for sub-Saharan cross-border transporters.“We can see it in the transactions on our platform,” he said.With 1 800 registered transport companies representing roughly 30 000 trucks, Korridor’s online presence had become an ideal barometer to gauge where movement was shifting to, said Va n Blerk .“For some time now, we have noticed a marked uptick of trucks heading to Walvis Bay.“Our model is based on following demand, and what we’ve seen is a growing need for an enhanced network that links up with Walvis.“We don’t choose the network for our customers; our customers drive the demand for our network, allowing us to be at the right location with the needed service.”He said it was also why Korridor had a new truck park in Katima Mulilo.“Several of our clients use this corridor and the request was there to replicate our service from our existing truck parks in Zambia.”
