Plastic lining makes containers dry bulk-friendly

DRY BULK products like chemical powders and foodstuffs are increasingly being shipped in containers as a cost effective solution for silo to silo distribution. That’s according to Caryn Formby of Power Plastics who says that twenty or forty foot boxes are being lined with a waterproof plastic lining that protects dry bulk cargo without the need for individual packaging into units. “With no pallets or additional packaging, space is utilised to provide the cost-effective advantages of a full container,” says Formby. The company uses polyethylene, polyprop, thermal and canvas type PVCs as the base material for its covers and liners. “Anything from cocoa and milk powder to fertilisers and rice products are suitable for lined containers, with the cargo mechanically filtered directly into the container and then simply tipped out on discharge. “Container liners range from wide access liners to top fill and end fill liners,” adds Formby.
