MBABANE – A 170-km natural gas pipeline will run through Swaziland from Mozambique before proceeding to SA, according to a proposal with the Ministry of Natural Resources, which is considering government assistance for the project. Government sees the pipeline as a means of achieving a degree of national energy selfsufficiency. The gas could be used for a proposed 60 megawatt power station, which developers say can be up and running in two years. Two years is also the time frame for pipeline construction. The pipeline’s capacity could carry three million gigajoules per year. Natural Gas, like all Swaziland’s petroleum products, is currently imported by road.
