Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) is forging ahead with its inland bulk terminals.
In addition to its capacity-expanding manganese terminal in Lohatla (see page 6), chief executive Nozipho Sithole said that TPT also successfully operated two other inland terminals.
These include the Pendoring multipurpose terminal in Brits in North West, and the Newcon Terminal in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal.
According to Sithole, at Pendoring the terminal operator has proved its ability to successfully work inland when it exceeded volumes and revenue numbers within the first year of operations.
Having budgeted for 282 000 tons in various commodity volumes, a total of 678 000 tons was handled. The facility also handles the movement of chrome to the Port of Richards Bay.
