Although yet to be made official, the deadline date of February 1 for the start of the Part 108 air cargo security regulations is likely to be extended. A reliable FTW source, close to the coal face on Part 108, has suggested that only the minister’s signature is awaited on the appropriate delay notice, and this is likely to be penned this week. FTW has also been told that the pressing reason behind the delay is that those in the air cargo industry who are affected by the new rules – which demand a full screening of all airfreight export cargo not classed as “known cargo” before it is allowed to be loaded – are struggling to comply with all the rules before the deadline date.
