One Stop Border Posts (OSBPs) will play a critical role in the growth of intraAfrica trade.
According to Eisuke Tachibana, infrastructure adviser in the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (Nepad) Planning and Coordinating Agency, while Africa has recorded tremendous growth in recent years, intra-Africa trade has continued to lag – and many studies have highlighted the impediments at border posts, ports and corridor checkpoints as major contributors to this.
OSBPs, introduced on the continent in the 2000s, remain the most efficient way of achieving growth while also addressing cost – according to Tachibana. He told FTW that cost savings enabled re-investment – ultimately leading to the expansion of trade.
