Zambia and Tanzania have agreed to establish a one-stop post at the Nakonde/Tunduma border crossing in the north-east of Zambia. Speaking in Lusaka at the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish the one-stop post, Zambian minister of commerce, trade and industry, Felix Mutati, said it would improve regional competitiveness by simplifying documentation and processes at the border. According to Mutati, revenue at the Chirundu one-stop border post between Zambia and Zimbabwe had increased by 30% since it started operating in December 2009. Funding of US$1.2-billion has reportedly been committed for the development of a north-south trade corridor from the port of Dar es Salaam to the Zambian and Congolese copperbelts, and down into South Africa.
